20th February 2022

Well, Eunice proved to be a very unwelcome visitor! By Friday lunchtime she’d brought down trees and power cables, and by the evening she’d removed some of Chris’ precious plastic, sent the workers home, blown rubbish and containers around the site, and blown over the toilet. Fallen trees missed the garden wall thankfully but the converted chapel next to the pub took a direct hit. Village spirit saw anyone with a chainsaw out clearing some of the roads.

We cancelled the kids coming for the village music quiz and a work weekend, replaced the plastic sheets that had blown off (not easy in the gales!), went for a curry in Shaftesbury (also to warm up and recharge phones etc), and after Chris had opened the shop on Saturday morning, we decided to abandon the caravan – no heating, no lights and no comforts, heavy frost and hail – it really was all just too miserable! The latest prediction for the earliest restoration of power is 11pm on Monday so we’ve decamped to Henry and Erica’s in Bournemouth.

We’ll travel back tomorrow to gauge the damage, open up for the contractors and deliveries, and reconnect the toilet – living the dream …
