7th January 2022

Our tradesmen have been plugging away on the roof, Jose and co on the PVC membrane to the flat parts of the roof and gutters, and Dave and Curtis on the plywood ahead of the membrane and zinc. Interruptions are from the rain and now sleet. Next week is looking dry so we might be largely weather-tight in 10 days. Fingers crossed. The start of the zinc, which will be laid by a different team, is still a couple of weeks away.

We keep ourselves busy with planning the next stages – flooring, electrics and plumbing first-fix, dry-lining and plastering, doors, and the dreaded technology (lighting controls, audio-visual, wifi etc) – and choosing and buying stuff (we’re onto bathroom fittings). We’re beyond the Kevin McLeod “hmm, how’s the budget?” stage as cash floods out … Chris mops up inside but the satisfaction of no standing water is short-lived – the puddles are getting smaller though!

Although in areas it’s drier than the house, the garden is generally too wet to do much, but we enjoy showing inquisitive neighbours and friends around.
