We’ve pottered along this week, working on the area around the north gate close to the greenhouse. We’re putting in wooden shuttering to form beds between what will be grass paths and the veg patch, topping up the levels with soil laboriously screened for couch grass and stones. Progress has been interrupted by rain, Chris watching the T20 cricket with Paul and Rachel (who have Sky), and Bev’s trip to Staffordshire with Genevieve to visit family, post-lockdowns etc.

The idea is that this hellebore bed will be good, low-maintenance ground cover. It includes some new purchases, some salvaged from the bungalow garden, and some brought from Wolferstan Barn. Don’t be fooled – Dulcie didn’t help at all!

We’ve ordered a mass of yew hedging plants and the rotavator is proving very effective in preparing strips ready for them.

Finding a home for some of Chris’ tat
