Sitting with Gen and the fire pit to watch the Perseids meteor shower in a clear starry sky

On Thursday afternoon Page and Mark turned up to start the preparatory groundworks. They’ve started with stripping and stockpiling the topsoil from the central area in front of the house. The subsoils and rubble excavated from the new house footprint will then be dumped here and in due course covered over by a new lawn.

We’ve checked and double-checked the setting out of the building footprint as it’s starting to get serious. We have to get the footprint down to the right levels and covered with a layer of stone, ready for our main contractor to install the slab foundation. We now have a mid-October date for this which is good, albeit much later than we’d originally envisaged. The timber frame will then follow in November …

55 metres from one end to another!

Dave and Sophie called in on their way home from Cornwall, Bev went to the village fruit and veg fair, and Chris went on a ‘How to Heat your Home’ seminar. He still doesn’t know how …

Sadly we did not win the scarecrow competition.
