Finding ourselves in another new month highlights the time that we’ve lost through the planning process – say three months. By now we’d hoped to have some construction activity on site and instead we’re having to reinvigorate plans and get back onto contractors’ work schedules.

In the meantime, we’re continuing to get things done in the garden where we’re ahead of where we’d planned to be, and have repaired, planted or cleared areas we had thought might take years rather than months. We’ve read that many self-builds overspend on the house and don’t have the cash left to finish the garden – perhaps it’ll be the other way round for us …

Lee has completed the repairs to the east wall, scene of Chris’ accident which now seems ages ago.

Chris has another new toy that brings fresh dangers but also neater edges. The brush-cutter blade is particularly terrifying!

It’s not only the garden that’s had a haircut!
