Apart from a coat of paint on the door, the wellhouse is pretty much finished. When we first saw it back in January 2020 it was a sorry and sad sight, and we think that without the skilled workmanship of the Burfitt and Garrett chaps – Dave the oak, Trevor the tile and Lee the brick – it could have collapsed by now.
We’ve kept as much of the original structure as possible and used sympathetic new materials for what had to be replaced. You’d hope the gardeners that sat there, and maybe puffed on a clay pipe, back in the 1890s and early 1900s would find the wellhouse – or whatever they called it then – very familiar if they visited us now.

Absolutely love it!!
