9th April 2021

We’re still waiting for planning consent for the house, even though we’re now 10 days beyond the already extended target date for determination by Wiltshire Council. There’s been no communication from the planning officer and no reply to Chris’ polite – (yes, he can if he tries) – enquiries by email and phone. The timber frame company has been working with the architects on some design details so arguably we’re not yet losing time from our schedule but the planners don’t know that!

We’re getting on with things in the garden. We finally tracked down some rowans and lilacs and they’re planted. We also cleared a patch of rubble and asbestos sheet by the caravan for a temporary herb garden.

The base walls for the greenhouse and cold frames are finished and the bothy is taking shape. Lee – another of Trevor’s sons and brother of Dean – and Ted put the rafters on today so the gable end brickwork and slate roof can be finished next week.

Some bitterly cold winds this week have reminded us that spring isn’t fully sprung just yet but at least it’s been dry. The caravan has yet to achieve ‘snug’ status …
