Although living in a tin can has its drawbacks, it has proved to be very advantageous living onsite, as workmen and installers have a habit of just turning up, unannounced, ready to start work.

Today we can say construction started; not on a house just yet, but the footings for our garden store or ‘bothy’. Our subcontractor ground workers, Gavin and Billy, set out the dimensions for the store and the adjoining greenhouse first, and then dug the trenches and, at the same time, a soak away for rainwater.

Then our first delivery of ready mix concrete was transferred over from the drive, one dump truck load at a time….. Unfortunately the driver of the concrete lorry had difficulty reversing (not enough space!) and managed to churn up next door’s grass, so he ended up in big disgrace.

And this is the finished article, ready for the first blocks and bricks to be laid tomorrow. Green grass is giving way to brown mud. Progress?
