We’re hoping to thaw out over the weekend. It’s been a bitterly cold week and we’ve only kept warm with numerous layers, Zoom calls with friends, and Dulcie, our hairy hot water bottle, on the bed. Water supplies have been intermittent …
Outside activities have been limited to shifting some rubble but even the blocks from the demolished lean-to were frozen together. Once we’ve discharged a planning pre-condition (approval of a Construction Environmental Management Plan) and received a bat licence from Natural England, we can get the demolition of the bungalow underway. The walls and foundations will be crushed on-site so in the meantime the bungalow is a useful dumping ground for anything that’s crushable.

As the wellhouse nears completion we’re thinking about how to finish it off. The blacksmith makes nice wrought-iron benches and we’ve found a couple of bolts for the door. The conundrum is ‘do we paint the repaired door entirely and lose its lovely shabby look?’ Suggestions welcome!

Keep it shabby (or should that be shaggy)!? Hope the hot water bottle is still doing her job.
