Happy new year, everyone!

The excitement of a new year – one that’s surely got to be so much better than 2020!? – has been short-lived as we experience the harsh reality of living in a tin can in freezing weather. Temperatures fell to -7.4C in Wiltshire on New Years Day morning apparently and there’s talk of another ‘Beast from the East’ blowing in …

Last night we found the pipes inside the container unit with the sink and washing machine had frozen, split and thawed, soaking the container. Around midnight we managed to stop the feed pipe with a woodwork clamp and we swept the worst of the water out.

The outdoor toilet has also frozen up – a case of definite frozen ballcocks!

To complete our misery, the boiler’s now stopped and we think we’ve run out of Calor gas and will need to wait until Monday for refills. We need to get better at monitoring this – there’s no clever technology to keep track of gas bottle levels.

Hey ho, we knew it wouldn’t all go smoothly! Testing times….
