On Wednesday we drove to Bedford to visit Chris’ mum and deposit yet more surplus clothes and bedding. Jenny now has a spare room full of bedding and another spare bed piled up with clothes. Fortunately normal commercial storage rates don’t apply …

Today it was back to work at Clouds and the start of repairs to the wall. Trevor and Alan from the local builders, Burfitt and Garrett, stripped tiles from the west gate and the wellhouse. At the west gate the first problems were revealed; rot and woodworm in some of the soft wood that makes up the frame above the original oak.

Better news came from the outdoor loo which was christened by Trevor. No Tripadvisor rating but the visit seemed to go well!
Chris and Henry constructed a sturdy set of steps into the caravan from blocks and slabs salvaged from the bungalow. To cement or not to cement? We look the easy option – no cement.

At the wellhouse, we’ll again need more replacement oak and timbers than allowed for. I guess we’ll need to get used to this! Once the weight of the tiles is removed, it’ll be possible to jack up the structure and reposition the two oak pillars which have slipped. The rotten ends will be cut and put onto new greenstone pedestals.

Bev and Nigel popped in for a cuppa and Nigel explained to us the alignment of Venus and Saturn – was that it? Or Uranus?

Is Dulcie project managing the steps construction?
