The pressure to get jobs finished by Christmas has caused new peaks of stress – especially for Chris. Decisions and clarifications are needed constantly – thank heavens we’re here on site, but we’re paying the price of not having a principal contractor, project manager, or hands-on architect. Recycling and regular trips to the tip keep us busy and the site tidy. Chris insists on a tidy site!

The caravan continues to be cold, damp and cramped, and with the onset of winter we’re seeing more mould. We can’t wait to move into our super-insulated house.

Ducting for mechanical ventilation and heat recovery which will let the house ’breathe’ by introducing fresh air and expelling stale air. There are one or two of these vents in every ceiling.

Getting the big sliding doors – weighing in at 1.25 tonnes – in was one of the last jobs for the windows and doors installers. Led by Richard, they were a good team.
Dave and Curtis have been laying sheets of plywood on the monopitch roofs ahead of the zinc. Dave’s pearls of wisdom as ever, invaluable.
We’ve lost the dry weather without getting the flat roofs watertight, as we’d hoped. Jose and co did appear on Monday but frustratingly it didn’t last …
