Focus has shifted from wood to steel. Brendan and the team have been assembling and installing steelwork to cater for the bigger structural openings, including the irregular roof of the main living space. Some of these steels are massive but they’ll all end up concealed within the wooden frame and, most importantly in our new-found magical world of eco-building, won’t extend to the outside which would create ’cold-bridges’.
Not to be outdone(!), we’ve been doing our own metalwork, putting in a cast iron vent -Bev says stench – pipe for the future sewer against the wall. The Building Regs man has agreed that instead of venting through our flat roof, we can create this vent in the garden. We hope it’ll become a ’feature’ ….
