The guys have worked all weekend, mainly on laying the 28 loops of underfloor heating pipe. They’re a long way from home and we treated them to a meal at the Fox and Hounds, for a bit of welcome respite and nourishment. Surprisingly a glamorous blond appeared at one point – a girlfriend from Donegal. Clearly visiting her boyfriend on a building site across the water is the best way for her to see him. She didn’t help with the pipework though …
The ‘just in time’ approach means there’s little time to fit in two key tasks that we’re responsible for before the concrete pour on Tuesday. Tomorrow we have to ensure the Building Regulations inspector visits and gives us the thumbs-up that the foundations are sound and approved by him, to be concealed forever in concrete. We also have to get a plumber here to pressure-test the underfloor pipework before being encased in the concrete. Both of these things can only happen when Fergal says he’s ready. A nail-biting evening …
