In between the endless showers this week, and yet with the occasional burst of sunshine, we’ve managed to (more or less) finish our work on the base of the greenhouse.

The Alitex man has been and the good news is that he’s signed off the base as being ready for the frame, with lots of measurements in every direction to tolerances of 5mm. Aluminium doesn’t bend or flex … The bad news is that he’s suggested the installation won’t now be until October! That would mean the whole process has taken more than 12 months and we’ll of course lose another growing season. Along with the news that basic materials like cement are in limited supply, this is an indication of what we’re likely to be facing on the main build in due course – delays and shortages and no scope for haggling on price!
