The fresh planning issues will probably delay us two or three months and most likely means another winter in the caravan. But the swathes of bluebells and seeing friends are cheering us up. Fortunately we’ve got about 20 years’ worth of gardening to get stuck into and keep us busy. We’re working on the areas around the well-house and store and greenhouse, putting in drainage and preparing the surface, which will be a compacted sandy gravel like the paths you find in parks and National Trust properties.
We’re finding some building supplies are scarce because of Covid, so we’re delayed by waiting for oak sleepers, aggregates and gate furniture, for example. Our favourite retail therapy is Frome “I saw you coming” Reclamation where there’s no shortage of stuff we had no idea we needed … We’ve bought chunks of York stone to use as steps, a hearth slab for the stove in the bothy, and some Dutch cheese shelves (no, really!) that will form the tops of our potting benches.

That bolt looks fab!
